"Liquid crystal": the effectiveness of the ceramic coating for the body?

If a few years ago between the covering protector of the bodywork of the vehicle were the main coatings based on wax, today's best-selling novel, is of ceramic compositions, also known as "liquid glass." We understand the chemical composition of media for the body and calculate the prices.

That, in fact, it can give the body a ceramic coating?

Liquid crystal
  • a "mirror" Shine
  • the water and dirt repellent properties
  • resistance to ultraviolet radiation
  • protection from chips and scratches
  • protection of the chemical in the exposure of reactive

However, as wise men say - all you have to pay. This coating is very expensive and difficult to apply. And some can only be applied professionally to people in special circumstances - which are not yet available for sale, only for garages.

The fact is that this type of ceramic coating is the result of serious work of the pharmacy. Among other things, the composition of the nano-elements. It is clear that the word "nano" in relation to any product today is that if you don't laugh, after the fair question: too much appeared products with this "fashion gadget" in the title.

But in some coatings ceramic, nano-titanium dioxide powder, for example, to improve the grip of the drug and the strength of the film, therefore, in this case "nano" is not an empty sound.

A bit of theory

Today there are many "ceramics" drugs. But at the heart of them - a regular on the sand. Of course, not the sand (i.e., silica) and silicates, i.e. salts of silicic acids. We are all familiar with the silicates: for example, alkaline solutions of silicate of potassium and sodium silicate - this is the paper, glue or "liquid crystal".

By the way, the first liquid crystal obtained in 1818 by the German chemist and mineralogist, Jan Nepomuk von Fuchs. He certainly did not believe that their product is used to protect car bodies. In addition, the car then was not...

a bit of theory

For almost 200 years, the chemistry has gone far ahead, and the preparations for quartz-ceramic tiles are a complex mixture of substances, which then are not: in particular, the group of compounds based on silicon: silicones. And many other things.

What is in "nanoceramics"?

Here is the structure of a typical "nanoceramic" liquid crystal:

1) TiO2 - titanium dioxide: up to 3.0 %

The compound used in the chemical industry for bleaching, in particular, is in the meat of squid, chewing gum, chocolate drops, and other "white" products, as well as in one side of the paper), but also for the thermal protection in the composition of plastics and glass. Obviously, the last property of the titanium oxide in our case plays an important role, and very fine particle size allows you to add the prefix "nano".

2) SiO2 - silicon dioxide (in the form of a mineral is quartz): up to 30%

The base of the coating - colorless crystals having high hardness and resistance.

3) C10H30O5Si5 - decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5): more than 50%

Liquid based on silicone that is resistant to oxidation. In industry it is used for the chemical cleaning of textiles.

4) Al2O3 - aluminum oxide: less than 2%

Colorless water-crystals insoluble. It serves as a raw material for the production of refractory materials and abrasives.

5) Alkoxysilane: 12%

It is used in the synthesis of organosilicon products for creating organic polymeric film.

6) Surfactant (Copolymer surfactant) less than 1%

Surfactants is the basis of all detergents that, relatively speaking, "drive" of the pollution on the earth's surface formed by the essence of the film.

In principle, in different degrees, these compounds (or their equivalent) are used in almost all preparations. Something is added, something is removed, but the silicon is always present.

The difficulty of applying

The application process (also called "ceramic polishing") is practically the same for all drugs:

The difficulty of applying
  • thorough cleaning and thorough cleaning of the surface of the body.
  • the degreasing of the surface (required special preparations, lcp does not damage the car).
  • polished body, lights and glass, and removing residues of polishing pastes, grains and inclusions (the pros use a special clay). In General, the surfaces must remain "spider webs" and scratches.
  • remove jump
  • back to polishing - to a mirror finish, including glass, headlights and chrome parts.
  • the application of a ceramic coating of from 3 to 10 layers
  • drying for 6-8 hours

How long is a "liquid glass"?

Manufacturers often claim a lifespan of up to 3 years, but to judge to examine numerous reviews, the average of coating to be updated more often - once a year, always in the day-to-day operation of the vehicle.

It would be possible to carry out a test more reliably, but is a face of pleasure, because you need several identical vehicles in identical conditions. This is possible, strictly speaking, only in the laboratory. But, in spite of this Large consumption tests such as the American company of Consumer Reports who did not attend this type of testing, so today has to be based on assessments subjective.

How to wash the car after the application of "liquid glass"?

To start with, during the week that the car should not be washed at all because the coating is not fully formed. Some manufacturers recommend even longer-term abstinence - 2-3 weeks, and maybe worth considering. After this period, the shadow is less, so if you wash regularly, it will be enough rinse. Given the fact that the low-cost self-service car washes are very widely distributed, washing costs, it is possible to limit between 100 and 200 rubles a week.

Keep in mind that abrasive, that is dirty rags and brushes, should be avoided in order not to disturb the smoothness of the layer. However, as ceramics do not take care of, and in time, the coating still grow murky.

What is the result?

If you have money, the question: to strike or not to strike - not worth it, because ceramic protective coatings really work. The price that we now know of about 20 000 a year. To save on the purchase, obviously, cheaper to fund, or to save the application, trying to Polish the body independently, that is to say, it is not recommended. Then, generally, it is easier to leave the body without any protection.
